FAQ

Meetings:

 

Once a month on the 4th Tuesday of the month.
Meeting begins at 7:00 PM. In the beginning of the year, November
and December meetings are set for a different week due to
conflicts with the holidays.

Membership:

Annual Dues: $20 members joining
between January and June, and $10 for members joining between July and
December of the first year. (Visitors will be charged $2 per meeting after
attending two meetings free during a membership year.

Meeting Place:

Centre Presbyterian Church, 129 Centre Church Rd.,
Mooresville, NC 28117. Exit 33, I-77.

Activities:

Block in a Bag—Groups of 8-12 people. Pick a theme (hearts, leaves,
Halloween, etc.) and purchase several yards of three different fabrics that you
want used in your blocks. (i.e., for Fourth of July, you would probably choose
red, white and blue fabric.) From each of these fabrics, cut part off to keep,
and cut small pieces for each person in your group, and put them into bags.
Include a piece of paper with your name, your phone number, your theme,
and any information you want the block-makers to know (i.e. if you want
them to use a particular fabric for the background).
Each person has a month assigned to them when their blocks will be
prepared, and the completed blocks are returned the following month. More
detailed instructions are given to participants at the beginning.

Block in a Box—Each participant places their fabrics of choice called for in
the detailed instructions, in a box together with their instructions. Each person
makes a block for each box that is passed on to them, using the same block
pattern each time. Keep all the blocks you make until the end of the rotation,
when the blocks are revealed.

Block of the Month—Each month you may choose to do the selected block
pattern. Each person bringing a completed block gets their name in a lottery;
the winner wins all the blocks brought in that month.

Challenge Quilts—Once or twice a year, a challenge is presented to members
to make a quilt with a particular theme. Guidelines are given, and sometimes
a particular fabric needs to be included. The challenges are optional.

Christmas Comes Early—An annual Christmas sale as one of our monthly
programs. Each member is asked to make something/s to bring and donate
for sale. We also ask our members to invite friends to shop. All items that
would sell for less than $10, price with a set price. All items that would sell
for $10 or more are put out as a silent auction.
The bidding process is timed, and it is a time of fun as we all try to outbid
one another. This is a fundraiser for the guild – 2009’s goal is to buy quilt
stands for our quilt shows.

Christmas Party—Each December, in place of our regular business meeting,
a pot luck dinner is held. Members bring items for 2 gift baskets to be won by
a drawing. Donations may include new quilting related items or something
from your personal “collection.”

Fifty Fifty—Buy a ticket or tickets for $1 each. The sales are totaled; half of
the total goes to the winner of the ticket that is drawn and the other half is put
into the guild’s treasury.

Library—A cart of books is set out each month and is available to all members.
Check out and returns are done by the honor system. Write your name,
date and name of the book checked out in the notebook provided. Books are
to be returned to the next monthly meeting.
Donations of quilt books are gladly accepted. There is not space for other
craft books. Magazine donations are appreciated and are available to members
for 25 cents each.

Raffle Basket—Tickets for this raffle do not require a monetary donation, but
the winner is to return the basket, full, to the next meeting. The contents may
be any quilt related items: from your stash, tools, trims, magazines, etc.

Quilt Show—We host a two day judged quilt show for our guild every 2
years, having begun in 2007. Every member is encouraged to enter quilts
in our show to be judged, or exhibition only. There is no limit to entries.
Members also volunteer to help with the various committees for the show.

Refreshments—At the beginning of each year members sign up to bring light
refreshments of their choice, coordinating with the others who have signed up
for that date.

Show and Tell—Bring your creations to share with the guild! Tell a little
something about your project. Tips and tools may also be shared at this time.

Soup Kitchen Collection—A voluntary donation is taken up each month to
benefit the Mooresville Soup Kitchen. Any donation is happily accepted.
